Chief James Augoye, the immediate past Commissioner for Works in Delta State has said that Nigeria can come out of its current economic quagmire if priority is given to agriculture and industrialisation.

Augoye, a 2023 governorship aspirant on Friday, while delivering a lecture on the topic, “A Nation in Search of Direction: Political and Economic Imperatives” organised by the Catholic Diocese of Warri Justice and Development and Peace Commission, said improvement in both sectors would greatly reshape the precarious economic situation in the country.

The event was held at the Jubilee Retreat and Conference Center in Effurun headquarters of Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.

Augoye, who was a guest speaker at the event also harped on the development of other critical sectors of the economy such as education, reform of the electoral system and resource control.

He charged the federal government to do more as the nation, quoting former President Olusegun Obasanjo, is fast drifting to a failed state in terms of insecurity and poor economic index.

Augoye further gave some insightful solutions to Nigeria’s political development, which includes resource control and devolution of more powers to the federating units.
