Deal squarely with bandits masquerading as herdsmen – Babogha tells Buhari

A prominent Ijaw leader in Delta State, Chief Julius Babogha, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to tackle headlong the very disturbing insecurity in Nigeria which has been largely blamed on criminal activities of bandits masquerading as herdsmen in parts of the country.

Babogha in a statement in Warri said President Buhari should be firm and decisive in dealing with the menace posed by bandits according to the constitution.

The Ijaw leader lamented the gruesome manner innocent and defenceless Nigerians are murdered on daily basis noting that the fast deteriorating insecurity in the country is very unhealthy for the continued unity of the country.

Babogha faulted calls by a renowned northern Islamic scholar, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, for the federal government to pardon bandits and grant amnesty to the repentant ones.

Gumi as reported by PUNCH “said if government could pardon coup plotters that committed treasonable felony, there was nothing wrong extending the same gesture to bandits.”

The Ijaw leader who took a swipe at the recent comments of the Islamic cleric which he described as ‘unguided’ warned that such comments are capable of causing uproar in the country.

He appealed to all aggrieved Nigerians to toe the path of peace and always be vigilant so as not to become casualties of the suspected herdsmen.

Babogha commended the government and other stakeholders who are working tirelessly to ensure that the safety and growth of Nigerians and Nigeria are sustained.
