Relief materials supplied by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and facilitated by Senator Ede Dafinone (APC, Delta Central) have been distributed to victims of the 2025 flood and windstorm disasters across communities in Delta Central Senatorial District of Delta State.
The post-disaster intervention, which commenced midweek in the Sapele axis, covered affected areas in Udu, Ughelli South, Ughelli North and Sapele Local Government Areas. Beneficiary communities included Ogbe-Udu, Okwagbe, Ewreni, Uwheru, Vitafoam, Community Road Amukpe, Town Gate Okirigwre, Ojolu, Gana and Orhiakpa.
Items distributed comprised food supplies and essential household materials such as bags of rice and garri, beans, salt, spaghetti, seasoning cubes, canned tomatoes, vegetable and groundnut oil, mosquito nets, towels and maternity dresses.
Speaking at the Gana distribution point in Sapele, Senator Dafinone, represented by his Deputy Chief of Staff, Chief Justin Uloho, said the intervention was aimed at cushioning the effects of the disasters, which destroyed homes, farmlands and sources of livelihood across the district.
He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the release of the relief materials, describing the move as timely and compassionate.
Chief Uloho assured residents that the exercise would extend beyond Sapele to other parts of Delta Central, stressing that the senator remained committed to ensuring that federal support reached grassroots communities most in need.
At Ogbe-Udu in Udu Local Government Area, the senator’s Liaison Officer, Engr. Peter Oputu, explained that the distribution was a federal government response through NEMA, facilitated by Senator Dafinone’s office and aligned with Delta State’s broader recovery efforts.
He conveyed the senator’s appreciation to the Tinubu administration for its continued intervention in disaster-affected Urhobo communities.
Community leaders and political stakeholders praised the initiative. In Evwreni Kingdom, APC chieftain and former President General of the community, Chief Ohare Victor, described Senator Dafinone’s intervention as effective and people-focused, noting that the relief materials would provide immediate support to families displaced by the 2025 disasters.
Beneficiaries also expressed gratitude for the assistance. Mrs. Blessing Ogheneovo said the items would help her family rebuild after losing property to flooding.
Another beneficiary, Mrs. Thelma, described the intervention as timely, while a nursing mother, Mrs. Mary Efe, praised the inclusion of maternity materials, saying it showed sensitivity to vulnerable groups.
Mrs. Gladys Okoro added that the physical presence of officials during the distribution boosted confidence and trust among beneficiaries, while Emoregha Tina of Ewreni said the gesture reinforced confidence in Senator Dafinone’s representation as the 2027 general elections approach.
In Sapele, Chief Patrick Akamuvba, the Chief Liaison Officer, described the exercise as a clear demonstration of responsive leadership, commending both President Tinubu and Senator Dafinone for prioritising disaster relief.
Officials of NEMA from the Benin Zonal Office monitored the distribution across all locations to ensure transparency, accountability and orderly disbursement of the relief materials.
The intervention highlights sustained federal-legislative collaboration in post-disaster recovery and underscores the growing link between effective representation and grassroots confidence across Delta Central.
