The Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission ( NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa has congratulated Mr Oye Owolewa, the first Nigerian to be elected into the US House of Representatives.

In the letter of congratulations, Dabiri-Erewa was pleased with the wonderful feat of Mr Owolewa, describing it as well deserved.

She acknowledged the sterling qualities of Owolewa as a role model to the youths and a good ambassador of Nigeria which endeared him to the grassroots leading to his historical election into the US Parliament.

She advised him to diligently carry out his duties as a new congressman in such a way as to positively impact on the community who entrusted him with their votes.

Despite the campaign being toilsome, Owolewa pulled through and won.

“This goes to show that with dedication, hard work, resilience and prayer one can achieve just about anything”, Dabiri-Erewa said.

In a landslide victory, Owolewa won his USA congressional seat over his Republican counterparts representing the Washington DC metropolis in the USA House of Representatives with 82.65% of votes which represents 135,234 votes.

Oye Owolewa, a Nigerian born Democrat, hails from Omu-Aran in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, Nigeria.

He is a PhD holder In Pharmacy from the Northeastern University, Boston USA and represents the District of Colombia under the Democratic party.

In a similar development, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa has rejoiced with another Nigerian-American, Esther Agbaje who becomes the first Nigerian-American in the Minnesota Legislature.

In the congratulatory message, the NIDCOM boss was excited that more Nigerians are showing their interest in impacting good governance in their countries of residence.

She said the election of Ms Esther Agbaje in the Minnesota House of Representatives is a testimony that Nigerians are capable of being trusted with position of authority.

As a three-term lawmaker in the House of Representatives (2003 to 2015) , Dabiri Erewa wishes her continued and unparalleled success

Ms Esther Agbaje, 35, who contested to represent District 59B in the Minnesota House of Representatives on the platform of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, an affiliate of the US Democratic Party, is a Nigerian-born American.

Agbaje’s victory makes her the first Nigerian-American in the Minnesota legislature.

It is expected that more Nigerians will win their polls in the ongoing national elections in the US.
