Curfew imposed in Delta community as 1 dies, others sustain injury during procession

A curfew has been imposed in Aboh community in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State following the recent crises in the community.

The curfew, as contained in a release signed by the Secretary to Ndokwa East Local Government Council, Prince Gabriel Tunji Iyasele, commences daily from 7pm to 6am.

“This is sequel to the violence that erupted in the community during the procession of an Igbu, a new entrant in the community, which led to attacks and counter-attacks that resulted in the death of one indigene with several others seriously injured.

“The curfew has become very necessary due to the tension and breach of peace in the aftermath.

“The local government chairman, Hon. (Chief) Vincent O. Osilonya, has approved the imposition of the curfew after due consultations with security operatives in the area. The government earnestly appeals to all residents to abide by this directive until further notice to restore normalcy to the community.

“The chairman condemns the violent attacks and counter-attacks in strong terms and views the disturbances and the breach of peace in the community as unacceptable, warning that security operatives have been directed to enforce the curfew, urging all inhabitants of Aboh community to provide relevant information to security agencies and shun rumour-mongering to ensure peace returns to the community.

“While assuring citizens and residents of Aboh of the protection of lives and properties in the community, the chairman is appealing to residents to exercise restraint and remain calm as the government is doing everything possible to restore peace in Aboh community,” the release concluded.
