The whereabouts of three policemen allegedly kidnapped some weeks ago in Delta State with their AK-47s and 119 rounds of ammunition have remained sketchy.
Sources say the officers, Inspector Felix Onogho, Insp Hamidu Joel and Insp Emmanuel Okoroafor, were among six officers drafted from PMF 51, Oghara to a nipping point at Ohoror axis of East-West road in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State on January 24, 2024.
According to a security source, “Three of them were detailed to rescue a man, Moses Progress, 22 from Uwheru community who called for help that he was robbed by suspected Fulani herdsmen of his Oppo phone and cash while performing a ritual to the god of the river at a nearby bridge close to their nipping point.
“The leader of the team has to detailed Inspector Felix Onogho, Inspector Hamidu Joel and Inspector Emmanuel Okorafor to follow the complainant to the scene with their AK-47 riffles with breach no:010747, with 32 rounds of ammunition, breach: 08308 with 57 rounds of ammunition and breach no: 15678, with 30 rounds of ammunition respectively.”
Investigation by the Pointer reveals after the incident, Delta DC Operations immediately led a crack team of security operatives to the scene for their rescue all to no avail.
A senior security source attached to the Delta State Police Command who spoke on anonymous condition disclosed that “the victims are yet to be presumed dead or alive but the police are making frantic effort to rescue them.
“Another team has gone to the scene to comb the whole area but it was a fruitless effort and the police are not resting until the three officers are rescued with their guns and ammunition.
“The suspect who came for that distressed call, Moses Progress is in our custody undergoing interrogation.”
When contacted the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Edafe Bright said, “The Command is seriously on it and I believe we will rescue them soonest”.
