The Delta State Police Command says the President General of Uwheru Community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state, Chief Macpherson Igbedi is cooling off in their custody.
The clarification by the Command is coming on the heels of the alarm raised by the people of the community that their President General was abducted yesterday Friday afternoon by unknown gunmen.
Sources in the community had alleged that the unknown gunmen had a commando style whisked away their President General while he was monitoring ongoing work in the community.
The incident had raised serious apprehension among the people of the community particularly up till Saturday morning when the whereabouts of Chief Macpherson Igbedi could not be ascertained.
However, when the spokesperson for the Delta State Command, DSP Bright Edafe, returned the calls put across to him by this medium on Saturday morning, he clarified that the President General of Uwheru Community, Chief Macpherson Igbedi was not abducted by unknown gunmen but by men of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Command.
DSP Edafe explained that the arrest of the PG bordered on a petition of vandalism in the community against the community leader.
He faulted the false alarm raised by the people of the community alleging that their PG was kidnapped by unknown gunmen whereas most of them knew he was arrested by men of RRS of the police.
