Five persons including a couple have been arrested by the police in Lagos State for allegedly selling a two-month-old baby.
The spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.
Hundeyin said detectives from the Oko-Oba Police Division initiated the investigation after the infant’s mother reported her son missing on July 11.
She indicated that one of the suspects had taken the child to an unknown location.
“Detectives acted promptly, leading to the arrest of a woman named Gloria. During interrogation, Gloria confessed to selling the baby for ₦500,000 to a Pastor Peter,” said Hundeyin.
Pastor Peter, arrested in Ikene Town, Ogun, admitted to reselling the infant for N1.4 million to a woman named Loretta. Loretta, subsequently arrested in Festac Town, Lagos, confessed to selling the baby for N2.3 million.
Further investigations led to the arrest of the final buyers, identified as Mr. and Mrs. James, during the child’s naming ceremony.
“All suspects will face charges in court upon the completion of the investigation,” Hundeyin added.
