By Emeke Alexander

A protest is currently on in Ekpan, Delta State over arrests made on Sunday night in the community by yet to be identified security agents.

Most residents particularly motorists woke up to see the entrances to the community from the popular Ekpan roundabout and Express junction on the busy NPA Expressway blocked.

Bonfires were also made at the entrances signalling tension over possible security breaches overnight in the community which is in Uvwie Local Government Area and houses major indigenous and multinational companies.

A motorist who called to alert NewsNet Nigeria about the development on phone but craved anonymity said as at 10:26am on Monday morning he could not drive past the community to his place of work because the Ekpan roundabout was blocked.

As at the time of filing this report, NewsNet Nigeria was yet to ascertain which security agency carried the alleged arrests and those arrested.

A source however alleged that the arrests made affected a faction in the recent dispute surrounding the Ekpn Development Community, EDC.

Calls put across by our Correspondent to the Chairman of Uvwie Local Government, Hon Ramson Onoyake were not answered.

His Vice, Daniel Ighedo, who returned the call to him confirmed the development but, quickly said he does not have details about the development.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe, also said he was yet to get details on the matter but would make them available as soon as he receives them.
