The Delta State Police Command says men of the Eagle-Net special squad on Wednesday engaged in a gun battle with some hoodlums at a notorious criminal hideout at Oghior community in Udu Local Government Area of the state, leading to the death of one suspect and the arrest of ten others.
A statement by the Command’s Acting Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Edafe Bright, said the deceased suspect, Igah Aminu, 27 years of Sadisco area in Warri later died after their arrest due to gunshot injury sustained from the ensuing gun battle.
The statement listed the ten other arrested suspects as (1) Henry Ogori ‘m’ 25yrs of NO. 18 Ifiha street Udu, (2) Kennedy Akpotu ‘m’ 19yrs of Oghior community Udu, (3) Promise Ophiomo ‘m’ 24yrs of NO.35 Ogbe road, Udu, (4) Daniel Believe ‘m’ 19yrs of Shell Qtrs DSC, (5) Daniel Sele ‘m’ 25yrs of Ogbe street, Udu, (6) Paul Zion ‘m’ 25yrs of Oghior community, Udu, (7) Philip Choice ‘m’ 26 of Oghior community, (8) Joshua Ogunamen ‘m’ 21yrs, (9) Johnson Opiomo ‘m’ 22yrs of NO. 36 Ogbe road and (10) Joshua Godswill ‘m’ 24yrs of Ujewu Qrts, Udu.
Suspects according to the statement have confessed to the crime and effort has been intensified for the possible arrest of the fleeing suspects who escaped with bullet injuries.
Exhibits recovered include two English made beretta pistols, three rounds of live 9mm caliber of ammunition and six mobile phones.
Also on Wednesday, the Command said two suspected cultists, Omoyevwe Emmanuel, 29 years and Marcus Michael, 24 years both of Usienfurun community were arrested in connection with the killing of one Ebeni Jelekun, 29 years of Ekakpmre, who allegedly belonged to Aiye confraternity cult group.
The deceased cultist was said to have been shot severally by a rival cult group led by one Oghenerona Young Goddy alias King Jaja of Ekakpmre/Egbou Hurie communities Otu-Jeremi.
The victim according to the police statement was rushed to Otu-Jeremi General Hospital where he was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty while his corpse thereafter deposited at the Otu-Jeremi General Hospital mortuary.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Otu-Jeremi, CSP Pius Eredei, who led patrol teams to the scene recovered 6 expanded ‘AA’ cartridges.
On Tuesday, the Delta State Police Command said, “at about 1300hrs, Sequel to a report by one of the indigenes of Ovade community that at about 1230hrs, along Oviade road to Oghara, he came across three boys armed with a short barrel gun and they blocked his path attempting to snatch his unregistered Daylong motorcycle but he was able to escape from them and raised an alarm that attracted passersby, they gave them a hot chase.
“The DPO Oghara mobilised patrolmen to the scene where they met the suspect one Gabriel Igodo ‘m’ 35yrs already beaten to stupor, the suspect was rushed to the hospital where he later died. One short barrel gun with one live cartridge was recovered. Investigation is ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects.”
