The Delta State Police Command says it has foiled another attempt by daredevil armed robbers to rob one of the new generation banks in Ughelli headquarters of Ughelli North Local Government Areas of the state.
A statement by the Command’s Acting Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, said the plan to rob the bank was foiled on Wednesday (7/4/202), when “based on an intelligence gathered that a robbery syndicate” was planning to rob a new generation bank at Ughelli, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Ari Muhammed Ali, directed Eagle net special squad headed by SP Usman Dimka to track down the criminals.
According to the statement, the squad on a sting operation in one of their hideouts in a hotel at Isiokolo in Ethiope East Local Government Area Delta state arrested one of their ring leaders, Joshua Oghenenovo aged 32 years of Uduphori town, Patani Local Government Area with one pump action with 20 live cartridges recovered for him.
Through his confessional statement one Kingsley Gbeneku, aged 29 years of Akwuofor Asaba in Oshimili South was arrested.
Gbeneku the statement disclosed happens to be a staff of the new generation bank the gang was planning to rob.
“The bank staff has confessed to being their informant and had already provided them with a clue on the modus operandi needed for them to attack and rob the bank successfully.
“Serious effort is on to arrest other members of the gang, while members of the public are advised to avail the police with any useful information that will help the police to arrest them,” Edafe said in the statement.
Meantime, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Ari Muhammed Ali has deployed two thousand and sixteen personnel to provide security during Saturday, April 9, 2021, bye-election for the Isoko North Constituency seat in the Delta State House of Assembly
The CP has assured residents of the state of the Command’s commitment to ensuring the security of everyone in the local government area by the deployment of officers to all the polling units and also some speculated hot spots in the area to maintain peace and calm all through the electioneering process.
He also appealed to front runners in the bye-election to caution their supporters and foot soldiers to restrain themselves from causing chaos as such will not be tolerated.
He also warned that no Police aid or security agent will be allowed to escort their principals or any important personality (VIPs) to the polling unit or on any movement while the bye-election last, noting that any security aid violating the directive will be arrested and made to face the full wrath of the law.
There will be restriction of movement around Isoko North Local Government Area from Friday 9th April 2021 by 0000hours to Saturday 10th April 2021 by 1600hours.
