The Delta State Police Command says the Ugoani of Okpanam Kingdom in the state was not kidnapped but arrested.
The spokesperson for the Command, DSP Bright Edafe, in a terse message to NewsNet Nigeria Sunday evening said, the Okpanam monarch, HRM Michael Mbanefo Ogbolu, was arrested by men of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) of the Nigeria Police Force, Abuja.
He said, “Pls rumour has it that Ogoani of OKPANAM was kidnapped…….pls and pls he was not kidnapped but arrested by police operatives from FCID……”
It was gathered that the arrest of the monarch who is a devout Catholic while returning from the church by men in a Sienna vehicle may not be unconnected with the sale of land in the community of Oshimili North Local Government Area.
Following the development, youths of the community were said to have taken to the streets in a motorcade to express their displeasure describing the act as sacrilegious.
While a senior chief in the palace, Dominic Anyasi, it was learnt has issued a 24-hour ultimatum for the traditional ruler to be released.
