The vigilante chairman of Jeddo community in Okpe Local Government Area of Delta State, Mr Jude Akiru, alias Scosco, has been reportedly shot dead by yet to be identified gunmen at the wee hours of Friday.
NewsNet Nigeria learnt that the deceased was gunned down at about 2am around Oil Junction in the community close to Warri.
A source said the late vigilante chairman was called by one of the assailants to the place he was shot severally.
But, according to The Nation the deceased received a call that some hoodlums were operating in the area and quickly drove from his house to the crime scene.
He was said to have been asked to put off his torchlight by the gunmen but refused and was shot multiple times by the gunmen.
A community source said some group of boys had gone to one shopping plaza, WWW Golden to steal that night before the killing.
The Acting Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Delta State Police Command, DSP Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident to NewsNet Nigeria in a phone chat.
