Tension heightened in Enugu State on Thursday morning as gunmen attacked a Police checkpoint and killed two policemen on duty and others.
The incident was said to have occurred at Gariki, MTD area in Enugu South Local Government Area of the state capital.
Eye witness accounts confirmed that shootings by the hoodlums forced residents and members of the public to scamper to safety.
However, it is unclear whether the hoodlums attacked the MTD Police station which is less than three poles from the checkpoint.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Enugu State Command, Daniel Ndukwe, said operatives were already on the trail of the hoodlums explaining that men of the Command were on stop-and-search when they were attacked. (PUNCH)
