Unknown gunmen have reportedly shot dead three mobile policemen in Ughelli, headquarters of Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

The incident happened at a popular eatery (name withheld) along the East-West Road also locally known as Domeze Road on Sunday night.

The three yet-to-be-identified policemen died on spot, sources told NIGER DELTA TODAY (NDT) Online.

It was gathered that the slain policemen were on special duty at the eatery when the incident occurred.

The service rifles of the deceased were snatched away by the hoodlums.

The victims were said to have been taken unaware by their killers as they could not engage the fleeing gunmen before they were gun down.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, confirmed the incident to NIGER DELTA TODAY (NDT) Online on Monday.

Onovwakpoyeya, who said details of the incident were still sketchy, noted that no arrest had been made on the killing.

She said a thorough investigation into the attack had been launched by the Command.

“I am aware of the incident but no details yet. It was only those three policemen killed that were involved”, the police spokesperson said.
