Federal High Court orders criminal summons, charge to be published against Evwreni monarch, ex-Delta Commissioner, others

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has ordered “criminal summons” and the Charge be published in Punch and Pointer newspapers against the embattled Ovie of the Evwreni Kingdom in Delta State, HRM Oghenekevwe Owin Kumane, Eruvwedede III over the killing of Prince Muvi Unagha.

Also affected by the Court Order are the former Delta State Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Samuel Oghenevwogaga Mariere and nine others mentioned on the face of the charge.

The presiding judge, Justice A. R. Mohammed, who gave the Order on Tuesday, July 18, 2023, adjourned the matter to November 14, 2023, for all defendants to appear in Court.

The suit marked FHC/ABJ/ CR/401/2022 has Sani Bagudu as the prosecution counsel, while Albert Akpkomuje SAN the legal representation for the 5th defendant (i.e the Monarch), Mazi Afam Osigwe leading Okeke stood for the 6th and 11th defendants being Samuel Mariere and John Iyu respectively.

The 1st defendant Peter Okuah and the 3rd defendant were absent in Court but represented by one O. Ekemba.

Recall that in the charge paper sighted by NewsNet Nigeria signed by the Director, Public Prosecutions of the Federation, M. B. Abubakar and others on behalf of the Honourable Attorney General of the Federation, the Evwreni monarch, Hon. Mariere and the nine other accused persons are standing trial on six-count charges which include: “acts of terrorism by attacking and causing the death of MUVI UNAGHA” and “participated and committed acts of terrorism by seriously intimidating Evwreni community by burning down over thirteen houses and destruction of properties worth millions of naira in Evwreni Kingdom Ughelli North L.G.A Delta State”.
