A policeman on Thursday lost his life at Otovwodo, Ughelli, headquarters of Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, during a #ENDSARS protest.
Sources identified the policeman that was killed as corporal Stanley Etaga, who was among other policemen assigned to douse tension occasioned by the protest.
Unconfirmed report has that Etaga was killed at Otovwodo along the East/West road by the protesters suspected to be internet fraudsters.
NewsNet gathered that several cars were damaged during the protest as commuters along the busy East-West road axis of the town scampered for safety as gunshots rented the air while the protest lasted.
The protest it was learnt began from the Otovwodo junction axis of Ughelli, through Isoko road to market road and other adjoining areas.
Sources say the protesters on sighting a team of policemen drafted to douse the situation opened fire leading to the death of the policeman while the others fled.
In a phone chat with NewsNet, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onowakpoyeya confirmed the death of the policeman during the protest.
She said, “It is true and that is all I can say for now.”
