It is said that every day may be for the thief but one day is for the owner.
A not-so-lucky suspected electric transformer thief Wednesday morning narrowly escaped being caught at Odjegba Close, off Ejirue, New Lay Out, Jakpa Road, Uvwie Local Government Area, however, as he escaped he left in the trail his phone and ATM card.
He had succeeded in cutting some armoured cables attached to the transformer before security men in the area spotted him in the act of vandalizing the transformer wires.
Many Residents of Odjegba Close off Ejirue, New Lay Out, Jakpa Road, Uvwie Local Government Area were still in deep slumber in the wee hours of Wednesday when an alarm by security men in the area shook them awake.
Power was out in the area when the suspected thief used the opportunity to vandalize the transformer serving the residents of Odjegba Close and adjoining streets.
He had succeeded in cutting two armoured cables attached to the transformer and was heading to the third one when members of the vigilante group sighted him and raised an alarm.
The thief abandoned the cables and ran away.
But, the thief as he made away left behind footprints of his identity. His phone and ATM card fell from his pocket as he ran from the scene of the crime.
Residents of the area have reported the incident at the Ekpan Police Station and the Police have started their investigation.
