The Delta State Police Command has begun investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Gift Ojarikre, the 29-year-old birthday celebrant at Obinomba community in Ukwuani Local Government Area of the state.
Ojarikre died on Friday, September 24, 2021, from the bullet fired by a member of a patrol team during his birthday party at a popular bar in Obinomba axis of Umukwata kingdom.
The Command’s spokesman, DSP Bright Edafe told NewsNet Nigeria that members of the patrol team have been taken into custody on the orders of the state Commissioner of Police, Ari Mohammed Ali, for investigation on the matter.
Edafe said, “When an incident happens he will be briefed, when there is a need for investigation, there are some actions to take based on the information.
“Somebody has died, regardless of the circumstance it is only fair for him (CP) to initiate an investigation on the matter.”
The Command had in its initial reaction to the incident said the bullet that killed the deceased was fired in self-defence by one of its men when a group of boys at the birthday party tried to disarm an inspector who was among the patrol team.
