A passionate appeal has gone to President Muhammadu Buhari, to ensure the rescue of two Nigerians and Deltans kidnapped in Anambra State on Sunday, February 20, 2022.
The appeal contained in a statement by the Coalition for Media Politics and Governance, CMPG, signed by its Chairman, Fred Latimore Oghenedivbe, a lawyer accused the President and security agencies of not doing enough to rescue the victims after almost three weeks the incident occurred.
The group noted that enough clue has been provided which ought to facilitate the rescue operations but that it appears the incident is being swept under the carpet.
“It is the constitutional duties of Mr President as the CinC to give directives to the appropriate authorities and heads of security agencies to embark on search and rescue operation in order to bring back Mr. Steady Idisi and Mr Emmanuel Ifie, both from Delta Central Senatorial District,” CMPG noted in the statement.
The group also urged the Delta State Government to reach out to the governor of Anambra State, so as to join efforts with security agencies for the rescue of the two Nigeria citizens and other people alleged to have been held captive at the illegal detention camps of the kidnappers base in Anambra forests.
“We call on Mr President to deploy his men in the armed forces and the police to comb the forests in Anambra State with a view to rescue Mr Steady Idisi and Mr Emmanuel Ifie.
“It is the assigned constitutional duty of the President and CinC to ensure the security of lives and property of Nigerians, and in the instant case, to search and rescue Mr Idisi and Mr Ifie, who were kidnapped on their way to Port Harcourt and have spent nearly three weeks in the forest where they are currently detained by kidnappers.
“CMPG is aware that the House of Representatives gave a matching order to the Inspector General of Police and his counterparts in the Armed Forces to do the needful so as to rescue the above-named victims. This directive should be obeyed without further delay.
“CMPG wishes to respectfully appeal to the governor of Delta State, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, and the state government, to reach out to Anambra State governor, Chief Willie Obiano and the state government, and in the same token direct Commissioners of Police in the two States to liaise with other critical operatives to diligently search the forests of Anambra and rescue the two Deltans who were kidnapped, Steady Idisi and Emmanuel Ifie,” the statement added.
