Assassination: Murder suspects in Aboh Ogwashi-Uku remanded in prison custody

The suspects who were charged for conspiracy and murder in the Delta State High court Asaba (A/M/91C/ COMMISSIONER OF POLICE VS. UGO EMORDI & ANOR) with Hon Justice P. N Obanor presiding, have been remanded in prison custody with the case file sent to the Director of Public Prosecution for prosecution considering the offenses are capital offenses.

The suspects are Mr Emeka Onwadiamu and Mr Ugo Emordi, who are both residents of Ogwashi-Uku Kingdom.

Other suspects currently at large as fugitives from justice include Mr Chiedu Onwadiamu, Ekene Francis Ugbaja and other members who are from the Ibusa community are sought by the Police homicide unit.

Recall that late Mr Chukwunweike Alawo the deceased was gunned down in broad daylight in the presence of several eyewitnesses last 14/03/2022 by the suspects who came in a convoy of cars along with members from the Ibusa community.

Discreet sources who spoke with our correspondent claim that the group from Ogwashi-Uku had allied themselves with other land sellers from the Ibusa community in a bid to sell Ogwashi-Uku communal land located at Aboh Ogwashi.

In the process, these suspects currently remanded and others at large, stormed the Aboh Ogwashi community and gunned down one of the members of the community who was working with the appointed community leader Chief Barrister Jude Obidi.

This is allegedly in a bid to stop any interference with their sales of land within the community.

Our source claims that the Divisional Police officer (DPO) took custody of the assassinated corpse and the case was to be investigated by the Delta SCID Homicide unit.

However, for over one year, nothing happened with the case despite numerous appeals by the community leader for the case to be thoroughly investigated.

Eventually, an SOS letter was written to the Inspector General of Police on the matter who directed the Deputy Inspector General for FCID to conduct a thorough investigation.

The detectives from the FCID Alagbon swung into action and three suspects were arrested including Mr Iloba Obata who was already a fugitive from justice for an unrelated rape, arson and murder.

Mr Iloba Obata is one of the suspects in another case who ran away from court with police handcuffs earlier this year and has been sought by the police ever since. Mr Iloba Obata who is already at the Federal Correctional Centre in Ogwashi-Uku is to be also arraigned shortly for this same murder and conspiracy.

It is understood that the detectives have concluded their investigations and the matter is now before the courts for prosecution.

The police have vowed to leave no stone unturned until the other suspects currently at large are apprehended. Our correspondent was told that one of the suspects, Mr Chiedu Onwadiamu had been making moves to frustrate the investigations by first offering financial inducements and then later by writing belated petitions to different police departments with a bid to muddle up the already concluded investigation.

According the one of the lead investigators, “We are aware that Mr Chiedu Onwadiamu rather than honour our invitation is going around writing petitions against our investigation. He should know that the FCID is the apex criminal investigation department for the entire country and we strongly urge him to submit himself for his statement to be taken. We will not be intimidated or deterred in our investigation. We will investigate as the evidence leads us”.

When contacted, Chief (Barrister)Jude Obidi declined any comment on the matter and referred our correspondent to the Delta State Homicide Department.

According to him, he simply wants justice for the deceased mother who is a widow.

The deceased Chukwunweike was the only child of the mother.

Efforts to reach DSP Bright Edafe, the spokesperson of the Delta State Police Command were unsuccessful.
