Armed youths on Saturday allegedly set ablaze and vandalized no fewer than three houses in Evwreni community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

NIGER DELTA TODAY ONLINE reports that the armed youths also burnt two vehicles and shot the immediate past President-General of Evwreni Kingdom, Olorogun Victor Ohare.

The incident happed at about 5pm on Saturday.

The hoodlums alleged to be members of the disbanded Evwreni vigilante group invaded the community following the arrest of their former leader, Mr. Tuesday Okuah, by police tactical team from Abuja over the alleged murdered of Sylvester Adjogbe.

Sylvester, a younger brother to the immediate past NDDC Executive Director, Projects, Engr. Samuel Adjogbe, was killed by community armed youths in July this year.

It was gathered that police detectives from Force Headquarters few days ago arrested Okuah and three others in connection with the incident.

Following the arrest, armed youths said to be loyal to the former vigilante leaders went on rampaging on Saturday destroying houses and cars and ion the process shot the former President-General of the Kingdom.

Several community sources, who confirmed the incident, disclosed that hundreds of persons have deserted to their homes for fear of being killed by the arms-wielding youths.

Unconfirmed reports have it that a soldier deployed to the community to maintain peace was also shot by the rampaging youths.

The youths were also alleged to have mobilized to burn the homes of the former governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor and a former NDDC EDP, Engr. Adjogbe, but were repelled by security operatives.

The home of Alhaji Unuagha Mumaika, a former chairman of the Delta Muslims Pilgrimage Board, was among the three houses damaged by the hoodlums.
