A policeman simply identified as Bobby serving with the Enerhen Division in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State has allegedly attacked and beaten a sixty-year-old woman, Monica Anyamah to a coma.
The woman NewsNet Nigeria gathered was rushed to the intensive care unit of an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
In a telephone chat with Our Correspondent, the victim’s daughter simply identified as Alexandria said the incident occurred on Saturday, October 21 in Agbarho Community.
While noting that her mother is hypertensive and diabetic, Alexandria said the Policeman denied her access to medication.
She added that the Policeman also beat and injured her father in the process.
According to Alexandria, “She’s been having seizures since Saturday after the policeman dealt a blow to her head.”
She demanded that justice be served in the matter to serve as a deterrent to others within the police force stressing the suspect has put her aged mother’s life in danger.
“I need justice for my mother dear Nigerians, please,” She appealed.
Narrating how the incident occurred, Alexandria said her mother who is a primary school teacher and businesswoman left the house as early as 7am at Agbarho to Effurun market where she sells Okrika clothes but on her return at about 5:30pm their house help simply identified as Rejoice had packed her belongings and ran out of the house.
Alexandria said her parents searched for her and called the agent simply identified as Wisdom who brought the house help to them to report the girl’s sudden disappearance from the house.
She said when they got to Wisdom’s house, they met the Rejoice at the residence of her boss, who was with the Policeman, Bobby who pounced on his father, injured him and beat his mother to coma in his presence.
The Delta State Chairman of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, CDHR, Comrade (Elder) A. P. Edariese in a statement sent to Our Correspondent said it is “a case of brutalisation”.
He said the Policeman, Bobby allegedly brutalise and detained the victim in connivance with his colleagues at Agbarho Police Division.
Comrade Edariese said the incident has placed the health of the woman who is a government school teacher in a precarious situation.
Comrade Edariese called on the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Wale Abass, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe and the Divisional Police Officer, Agbarho to intervene and unravel the mystery surrounding the matter and help save the life of the victim.
He also said the Policeman should be arrested for allegedly beating the victim by the Police authority and bring him to justice.
When contacted for comments, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe in text message sent to Our Correspondent denied the report. The text message he sent reads thus, “false”.
