Newly appointed Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Mr Nkem Nwaeke has solicited the support of colleagues in the pen profession for more visibility for the State Legislature.
Mr Nwaeke who spoke when he visited the DBS Warri Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, expressed gratitude to Members for their support over the years, first as the Station’s Government House Correspondent and later as the State Assembly Correspondent until he was appointed Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor.
Addressing members of the Union at the Edjeba-Warri office of the Establishment, Mr Nwaeke paid glowing tributes to the Speaker for the appointment and promised not only to uphold those virtues that informed his being chosen as his CPS but to enhance them.
“I was overwhelmed with calls and congratulatory messages, especially from the NUJ DBS Warri Chapel, after the Speaker announced my appointment as his Chief Press Secretary at the close of plenary on Tuesday, December 19, 2023.
“My assignment is to give visibility to the Speaker of the Delta State Assembly and by extension the State Legislature as he is the head and symbol of the House.
“I can not effectively take off on the new task without coming to this family to say ‘Thank You’ for the support over the years and solicit for more of such supports”.
“My Principal, the Speaker, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, amiable and humble, belongs here. He is from Warri Federal Constituency. So DBS Warri has a lot to do for me in sharing news of his efficient stewardship to the grassroots.
“This appointment belongs to all of us. Together, we must succeed with it”, Nwaeke stated.
The new CPS also thanked other Staff and Management of the establishment for their co-operation over the years as the Head of Asaba Operations of DBS Warri, and promised to remain a good ambassador of the Station.
He expressed optimism that the sustained cordial relationship between the Executive and Legislative arms of government in Delta State will further promote good governance in the state and that DBS Warri will surely benefit from such a peaceful arrangement.
The General Manager, Pastor Malcolm Oteri commended the CPS, Mr Nkem Nwaeke for making DBS Warri proud, stressing that the appointment is not just for him but the entire establishment.
“I am not surprised at the appointment of Mr Nkem Nwaeke as the Chief Press Secretary to Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly. The reason is because he has shown capacity and diligence over the years as Correspondent”, Oteri said.
The General Manager commended the Speaker for the appointment of one of their own as CPS, adding that the appointment was well deserved and would no doubt be of benefit to the establishment.
“To add my voice to the NUJ DBS Warri Chapel and staff of the newsroom, we are very grateful to the Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Guwor for finding one of us worthy of this appointment, it is a thing of honour for us in DBS Warri. This is just the beginning. More promotions will come to us as individuals and collectively.
“Nkem got to where he is today through commitment to assigned duties. I want to encourage other staff of DBS Warri to continue to be committed in the discharge of their duties as there are enormous rewards for working hard”, the GM stated.
In their remarks, the Acting Head of News and Current Affairs Department, Mrs Itse Igboje, Deputy General Manager, News, Mr Linus Chima and the Chairman, Nigerian Union of Journalists, DBS Warri Chapel, Comrade John Glover, urged the newly appointed CPS to remain focused and committed to his job.
While appealing that the interest of DBS Warri should be well represented in his new position, the officials charged Mr Nwaeke to remain a shining example and a good ambassador of the establishment.
They thanked the Speaker, Emomotimi Guwor whom they described as the quintessential Warri Boy, for the choice of Mr Nkem Nwaeke as his CPS and the Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, whom they also described as another Warri Boy, for approving the appointment.
The visit was attended by Members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, DBS Warri Chapel.
