Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State is expected to present the Staff of Office to the recently crowned Ovie of Mosogar Kingdom in Ethiope West Local Government Area, His Royal Majesty, Sunday Odogu Okpurhe, Uduaka 1.
Chief Sen Ighoyota Amori, who is the Chairman Central Planning Committee for the presentation of Staff of Office to the second monarch of the kingdom in a statement, said the programme of activities for the event will commence on Friday, September 23, 2022, with a Novelty football match at the College of Education playground Mosogar Town in Ethiope West Local Government Area, Delta State, beginning at 10am.
It will be followed at 4pm by a public lecture titled, “Origin and Tradition of Mosogar Kingdom” at Ovie’s palace, off Chief Ighoyota Amori Street, Mosogar Town.
Saturday, September 24, 2022, is slated for the Presentation of Staff of Office also at Ovie’s Palace, off Chief Ighoyota Amori Street, Mosogar Town, starting 10am prompt, and would be followed by reception and entertainment of guests at the same venue.
HRM Sunday Odogun Okpurhe, Uduaka 1, a retired Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs and Exercise was on Saturday, June 18, 2022, formally declared the Ovie-Elect of Mosogar Kingdom, at a meeting of the Ovie-In-Council led by the Otota of the Kingdom, Chief Ighoyota Amori, after the Uduaka ruling house and the selection committee presented their various reports which affirmed him as the winner.
He was crowned on Friday, August 5, 2022, after the state Executive Council on Thursday, August 4, 2022, approved his selection by Mosogar Kingdom at the State Executive Council meeting presided over by the State Governor.
Uduak 1 succeeds the first monarch of the kingdom, the late HRM, Samson Okirhioboh Imoyin-Omene, Udurhie 1, who was crowned (coronated) as the kingdom’s first king immediately after the creation of the kingdom in 2006.
The new Ovie of Mosogar Kingdom at a reception after his crowning said, “I am the happiest man on earth today and I give all the glory to God. The expectation is very, very high; the responsibility very heavy. Mosogar is an agrarian society, a developing place with a lot of challenges and I want to handle them head-on with the cooperation of my people.”
