As Nigeria marks its 61st Independence anniversary celebration, the member representing Ika North East Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon Anthony Emeka Elekeokwuri has stressed the need for the federal government and all other critical stakeholders to address the myriad of issues faced the nation.
Hon Elekeokwuri in a goodwill message to the great and wonderful people of Ika North East on the anniversary said the nation should not be allowed to degenerate beyond the present challenges.
The Lawmaker who is the Chairman, Assembly Committee on Public Accounts, stated that stakeholders particularly the Government at the centre must show enough commitment to tackle the security challenges facing the nation.
“I am so concerned about the security issue in the country. The federal government must show commitment to addressing it. People no longer move freely. In my Constituency, herdsmen and their collaborators have succeeded in stopping many from going to their farms. Farming is the major occupation in the area. So, how would they feed if they can’t access their farmlands? I pray that the resolution of the Southern Governors on open grazing would help address this problem,” Elekeokwuri stated.
The Lawmaker stressed further the need for the federal government to pay desired attention to all other diverse problems facing the nation, including decay in critical infrastructures, banditry, youth unemployment, and the worrisome devaluation of naira.
Hon Elekeokwuri congratulated the people of Ika North East on the 61st independence anniversary celebration and assured of the Okowa’s led administration’s commitment to improving efficiency in governance and quality of lives in Delta State.
While urging the constituents to remain focused and law-abiding, the Lawmaker reminded them that the challenges faced by the society are not peculiar to Ika North East, expressing the hope that the nation will pass over them.
“I congratulate my constituents for the 61st Independence anniversary celebration, even as I urged them to remain peaceful and law-abiding. Nigeria as a nation has come a long way and my hope is for a better country. Every Nigerian is a stakeholder, let us all play our parts to achieve a nation of our dream. There are too many issues confronting us as a people. I pray that God in His infinite mercies shall see us through,” Elekeokwuri stressed.
