Chairman of Warri South Local Government, Dr Michael Tidi, has congratulated the newly elected Chairman of Delta State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Comrade Churchill Oyowe and other members of his new executive, saying competence and doggedness spoke for them.
Oyowe, defeated his rival and colleague in the Delta State Ministry of Information, Comrade Salvation Ogono to emerge victorious, while a former Chairman of Delta Broadcasting Service Warri NUJ Chapel and veteran Broadcast Journalist, Comrade Felix Ekwu, becomes the new Vice Chairman of the State Council of NUJ, after defeating the immediate past Treasurer of the Council, Mrs Joy Mordi JP, in a peaceful and transparent poll held at Asaba Wednesday, October 18.
The election, also produced renowned print journalist, Victor Sorokwu as Secretary, Josephine Omordion as Assistant Secretary and Caroline Ubini, as emerging Treasurer.
Polycarb Orosevwo becomes Financial Secretary and Celestine Afokobah wins the position of Auditor.
The Warri South Local Government boss in a congratulatory message Thursday, October 19, asserted that journalists in Delta state, have echoed the imperative of placing competence above ethnoreligious sentiments, in the quest to build a better Nigeria.
Tidi, charged the Churchill Oyowe leadership, to carry all members of the union along, irrespective of the divide prior to the election and activate the media function of agenda setting and developmental journalism, saying it is time for everyone to contribute their quota towards the accelerated development of Delta state in particular and Nigeria as a whole.
