As the nation marks its 64th independence anniversary, the Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has enjoined Deltans to take pride in the state’s contributions to Nigeria’s growth.
Guwor in a goodwill message to his constituents of Warri South West Local Government Area, the people of the State, and Nigerians on the Independence Anniversary, said for the past six decades and four years, Delta, known as ‘The Big Heart”, has remained an undisputed key player in the progress and development of the country.
The Speaker, whose goodwill message is contained in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Nkem Nwaeke, urged the people not to lose faith in Nigeria as a united and progressive nation.
Guwor stated that the 64th Independence Anniversary is a milestone that reminds the people of their resilience, unity, and determination for a great nation, despite daunting obstacles and challenges.
“As we reflect on our journey, let’s honour the sacrifices of our founding fathers and the struggles of our past. We have come a long way, but our collective efforts will shape a brighter future,” he said.
The Speaker enjoined Nigerians to continue to strive for greatness, embrace the diversity of the people, and show greater commitment to promoting peace, justice, and equality in the land.
While wishing the country a happy Independence Day celebration, Rt Hon Guwor, who is the National Treasurer of the Conference of Speakers of State Houses of Assembly in Nigeria, expressed optimism that Delta will remain a trailblazer in the comity of states.
He pointed out that Delta State has been a major player in the country’s oil and gas production, accounting for about 30% of Nigeria’s total output, which he described as huge strides in the nation’s growth.
The Speaker, however, noted that there is still much to achieve urging the people to continue to work together to make for a prosperous, peaceful, and more vibrant Delta State.
Guwor, on behalf of the Delta State House of Assembly and the people of Warri South West Constituency, pledged an unalloyed commitment to peace, unity, good governance, and prosperity in the State.
He thanked Deltans for their unwavering support for Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s led administration.
“As we celebrate our nation’s independence, let’s also reflect on our collective aspirations and work towards creating a better future for ourselves, our children, our communities, and our dear state, Delta,” Guwor stated.
