11th Triennial Delegates Conference: Delta NAWOJ congratulates new national president, Ibrahim-Bura, Macaulay, others

The leadership of the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Delta State Chapter has congratulated Comrade Aisha Ibrahim-Bura, on her emergence as the new President of NAWOJ at the just-concluded 11th Triennial Delegates Conference in Abuja.

Comrade Bura polled 498 votes to defeat the incumbent President, Comrade Ladi Bala, who garnered 381 votes in the election held on Saturday, November 25, 2023, at the Maryam Babangida Center for Women Development, Abuja.

Delta NAWOJ in a statement by its chairperson, Comrade Sonia Unobunjo, and Secretary, Comrade Tracy Ikolomi, expressed confidence that “the victory of Hajia Ibrahim-Bura at the just concluded 11th Triennial Delegates Conference will usher in a new beginning for NAWOJ and open greater opportunities to female journalists across the country.

“NAWOJ Delta also felicitates the re-elected Deputy President, Lilian Okonkwo Ogabu; the National Secretary, Wasilah Ibrahim-ladan; National Treasurer, Fatimah Rasheed; National Financial Secretary, Ifeoma Aka; Assistant National Secretary, Aisha Cole, and National Auditor, Jemilah Abubakar on their resounding victory.

“Our warmest congratulations go to the newly elected Vice President of Zone F, Comrade Stella Macaulay, and Comrade Eunice Emeyazia, Zonal Secretary, who returned unopposed.

“With a grateful heart, the leadership of Delta NAWOJ expresses its utmost gratitude to all members of the State Chapter for the well-deserved epoch-making victory.

“We wish all our newly elected National Officers a successful and progressive tenure worthy of emulation.

“NAWOJ Delta is immensely grateful and thankful to the Chairpersons and Secretaries as well as members of NAWOJ in the five other states in Zone F (the BRACED States) namely; Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa-Ibom, Cross River, and Edo, for their unflinching support for our amiable and dynamic leader, Comrade Stella Macaulay, to lead the zone.

“We are indebted to all South-South Leaders of NUJ and NAWOJ including our Amazon Pioneer President of NAWOJ, High-Comrade (Dr) Brenda Akpan, PS CRSG Comrade Sam Igbala, Comrade Edward Ogude-Akpati, Comrade Norbert Chiazor, Comrade Kingsley Azuh, NUJ Zone F VP, Comrade, Comrade Opaka Dokubo and his Secretary, Comrade John Angese, NUJ Chairmen/Secretaries as well as our foremost leaders, Chief Mrs Ifeyinwa Omowole, Dr Abimbola Oyetunde and the immediate past NAWOJ Zonal VP, Mrs Uduak Ikang among others too numerous to mention for working tirelessly to deliver the mandate of our team.

“We pledge our unalloyed cooperation towards achieving a greater NAWOJ and appeal to all Women Journalists across the country to be United and join hands with the new administration to succeed.”
