Bedford College, Igbogidi, has won the 2025 Bashorun Askia Foundation (BAF) Schools Debate Competition, emerging tops among 16 participating schools in a highly competitive showcase of intellectual skill.
This year marks the 6th edition of the annual debate, sponsored by Bashorun Askia Ogieh, an administrator and accountant known for sustained investments in education, youth development, and community service across Delta State.

For six years, the Bashorun Askia Foundation has used the debate platform to foster critical thinking, creativity, and confidence among secondary school students, while promoting broader advocacy for quality education and productive academic engagement.
Bedford College clinched the top prize with a standout performance that impressed the judges. Army Day Secondary School, Effurun, took second place, and First Baptist Secondary School, Warri, finished third.
Although Bashorun Askia Ogieh was absent, he was represented by High Chief Prosper Edo, Executive Assistant (Political) to the Delta State Governor.

Edo praised the students’ remarkable displays and reaffirmed the Foundation’s long-term commitment to nurturing future leaders through education-driven initiatives.
The BAF Schools Debate remains a key platform for elevating academic excellence, sharpening analytical skills, and inspiring students toward purposeful, knowledge-based leadership.
