Residents of Agbarho community in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State will soon heave a sigh of relief in the restoration of electricity supply to the community.

This was disclosed by a representative of Benin Electricity Distribution Company, BEDC, Mr Simple Ugherakpoteri at a meeting between the electricity company and community leaders.

Last week Thursday, residents and traders in Agbarho community took to the streets to protest against the incessant acute outage in the community.

The protesters complained about high electricity bills and poor power supply which has crippled socio-economic activities in the community.

In order to resolve the issue, the leadership of Agbarho community met with the management of BEDC on Tuesday, January 18, 2022.

Head of Community Relations of BEDC, Mr Simple Ugherakpoteri, said the prolonged power outage in the community was caused by a heavy downpour that destroyed electric poles.

He stated that BEDC’s men are already working and power will be restored immediately they are through.

Mr Ugherakpoteri promised to look into the issue of overbilling and estimated bills complained about by the protesters and urged all to be calm.

Responding on behalf of the community, president General of Agbarho urhobo Improvement Union, Chief Monday Igho-Odiphri, said the meeting was fruitful and expressed confident that power will be restored to the community as soon as possible.

He noted that all the issues raised by the protesters have been addressed and urged all to remain calm.

Chief Igho-Odiphri, who urged BEDC officials to keep to their own part of the agreement and promised to give all necessary assistance, assured all that the BEDC office will not be relocated from the community.
