Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Oborawharievwo Ewhrudjakpo, has died after collapsing at the Government House in Yenagoa on Thursday.
He was 60 years old.
Ewhrudjakpo reportedly slumped in his office on Thursday afternoon while attending to official engagements.
Security aides and staff immediately moved him to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa, where medical personnel made efforts to resuscitate him.
Despite the emergency response, he was later confirmed dead.
Born on September 5, 1965, Ewhrudjakpo was a trained administrator, lawyer, and former federal legislator.
Before becoming deputy governor in 2020, he represented Bayelsa West Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
The initial collapse triggered anxiety within Government House, as officials awaited medical updates.
Earlier, the Deputy Governor’s media aide, Doubara Atasi, had confirmed the incident but provided no details.
Subsequent reports have now confirmed his passing.
Ewhrudjakpo served under Governor Douye Diri and was widely regarded as one of the administration’s key political strategists.
His sudden death has thrown Bayelsa State into mourning, with tributes expected from state and national leaders.
Further official statements from the Bayelsa State Government and the family are awaited.
