Supreme Court has reserved judgement in the appeals by SDP, Labour Party and APC challenging the victory of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

Following Tuesday’s apex court’s decision to reserve judgement apprehension has enveloped the folds of the political parties involved, particularly that of the PDP where several party faithful since the start of the new year 2024 have been appointed into various positions by Governor Oborevwori.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in 2023 declared Oborevwori of the PDP who polled 360,234 votes the winner of the governorship election ahead of his main challenger, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege of the APC, who scored 240,229 votes.

A five-member panel of the apex court, led by Justice Inyang Okoro, accepted the appeals by all the parties after they had adopted their final briefs of argument.

An appeal court judgement in November had affirmed his election with a three-member tribunal headed by Justice C.H. Ahuchaogu dismissing the petition filed by former Deputy President of the Senate, Ovie Omo-Agege

The appellants urged the Supreme Court to invalidate the November 24 judgement of the Court of Appeal in Lagos State, which dismissed their case for want of merit and affirmed Oborevwori of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as the bona fide winner of the governorship contest.

The tribunal held that the petition contained unsubstantiated allegations, noting that it was devoid of merit and speculative.

The five-member panel of the Supreme Court on Tuesday said it would notify the parties in the case the date for the judgement.
