The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has officially admitted new chapters into its national structure at the ongoing 18th National Delegates Conference (NDC) in Jos, Plateau State.
Among the newly inducted chapters is the Academic Staff Union, Federal Polytechnic Orogun (ASUP-FEPO) Chapter—an achievement that reflects the chapter’s sustained commitment, organisational growth, and alignment with national union standards.
The admission of ASUP-FEPO marks the culmination of over two years of deliberate internal structuring, active engagement with national ASUP organs, and consistent participation at zonal and national levels during its observer status.
Through the leadership of its Coordinator, Dr John O. Atake, and the collective dedication of its members, the chapter worked diligently to meet all statutory requirements, fulfil documentation obligations, and demonstrate readiness for full integration into the national body.
These efforts positioned ASUP-FEPO as one of the standout chapters approved for admission at the 2025 NDC.
Across the country, several other chapters were also admitted. Zone A recorded eleven admissions—nine new and two re-admitted chapters (Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic and the Shehu Idris College of Health Science and Technology). Zone B admitted seven new chapters, while Zone C admitted four.
Zone D, under which Federal Polytechnic Orogun falls, welcomed six new chapters, including the College of Health Technology, Ofuoma; Federal Polytechnic, Ohodo, Enugu State; Federal Polytechnic, Ugep, Cross River State; and the International Institute of Tourism, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, among others.
In total, twenty-eight chapters secured admission into ASUP after meeting statutory conditions and completing the required intent processes.
The significance of ASUP-FEPO’s admission was further highlighted at the conference, where ASUP National President, Mr Gbanja, formally acknowledged the chapter’s commitment.
The event also featured Dr Richard Iloma, Coordinator of ASUP Zone D, who joined Dr Atake in celebrating this milestone for the Orogun Chapter.
ASUP-FEPO’s successful admission represents not only a union achievement but also a testament to the chapter’s resolve to strengthen academic staff welfare, promote collective bargaining, and contribute meaningfully to national unionism within the polytechnic sector.
