Delta State Commissioner for Primary Education, Chief Sunday Onoriode has described members of the Association of Primary School Heads of Nigeria (AOPSHON), Delta State chapter as dependable partners in the development of the education sector.

Chief Onoriode stated this in his office in Asaba when the State chapter of AOPSHON, led by the Chairman, Comrade Eddy Mesere paid him a farewell visit where the association presented gifts to him in appreciation of his commitment towards their welfare.

The Commissioner, who stated that as managers of primary schools in the state, members of AOPSHON  had been very supportive, described his experience as Commissioner for Primary Education in the Ministry as wonderful.

He thanked members of AOPSHON for recognising his modest contributions to the services of the Delta State Government and the welfare of AOPSHON members in particular.

While saying that as an administrator, he approached his assignments with utmost commitment to getting the needed results, Chief Onoriode noted that he would not succeed without the support and cooperation of the Permanent Secretary, Mr Augustine Oghoro and the staff of the Ministry.

Chief Onoriode, who described Mr Oghoro as an intelligent and principled administrator as well as a goal-getter, appreciated the PS and staff of the Ministry for enjoying a cordial working relationship with them.

Earlier, the State Chairman of AOPSHON, Comrade Eddy Mesere said that they were in his office to thank him for his good works and his achievements in the education sector as Commissioner for Primary Education.

Comrade Messere highlighted such achievements under his tenure as Commissioner as the Best Teachers Award ceremony and the just concluded Zenith Bank Delta Headmasters’ Cup among others.

He specifically noted that the Commissioner had been passionate about their welfare and challenges confronting the association, stressing that type of Chief Onoriode in the society, especially in the political scene was rare.

Comrade Messere appealed to the incoming administration of Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori to appoint Chief Sunday Onoriode in his government, describing him as a great asset.

Present during the event were the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Augustine Oghoro, Permanent Secretary of the State Universal Basic Education, Mr Bryon Unini,  Director of Science Education, Mrs Hope Igumbor, Director of Quality Assurance and  Inspectorate, Mrs Clementina Ojumah, Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr Anthony Akponovo and the Director of Finance and Accounts in the Ministry, Mr Daniel Akiri as well as the Special Assistant to the Primary Education Commissioner, Dr Odia Mamuyovwri among others.
