Former two‑time world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua has been discharged from Lagoon Hospital in Ikoyi, Lagos, following a serious car accident on the Lagos‑Ibadan Expressway.
Joshua, 36, sustained only minor injuries and is now recuperating at home.
In the wake of the crash, Joshua personally oversaw the repatriation of his two late associates, Latif “Latz” Ayodele, his personal trainer, and Sina Ghami, his strength and conditioning coach, back to the United Kingdom for burial.
He visited the Lagos funeral home with his mother to pay respects, demonstrating his commitment to honouring his fallen friends.
Authorities confirmed Joshua’s discharge and expressed condolences to the families of the deceased.
Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn praised the contributions of the two men to Joshua’s career and extended sympathy to the champion during his recovery.
Preliminary investigations suggest the Lexus SUV carrying Joshua lost control and struck a stationary truck along the busy expressway.
Footage shared on social media showed Joshua and Ayodele together just hours before the crash, highlighting the sudden and tragic nature of the accident.
This incident follows Joshua’s December 19, 2025, knockout victory over Jake Paul in Miami, marking his return to the ring after a hiatus.
He is expected to remain in Nigeria for recovery, with no official updates yet on how this tragedy may affect his upcoming boxing schedule or potential high-profile bouts in 2026.
