A public affairs analyst, Fred Akpewe, has said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has a historic opportunity to inscribe his name in the annals of national unity, equity, and justice by supporting the creation of Anioma State.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Akpewe described the move as a significant step towards affirming Tinubu’s commitment to fairness, inclusivity, and sustainable nation-building.

“In Nigeria’s evolving political landscape, legacies are not merely forged through speeches or policies but through bold actions capable of shaping future generations,” Akpewe noted. “For President Tinubu, the creation of Anioma State represents a monumental opportunity to etch his name into the chronicles of national unity, equity, and justice.”

Akpewe pointed out that Anioma, a region rich in culture, resources, and human capital, has for decades sought recognition as a distinct state within Nigeria’s federal structure.

Despite its contributions to national development, he said, the region has remained marginalised in conversations surrounding state creation.

“Now, under Tinubu’s leadership, the call for Anioma State has gained fresh momentum, symbolising long-overdue justice for a people whose identity has often been overshadowed,” he said.

According to him, President Tinubu, known for his advocacy of restructuring and equitable representation, understands the necessity of balancing Nigeria’s diversity with fairness.

“By endorsing and actualising the creation of Anioma State, he would be delivering on the principles of fairness, inclusivity, and nation-building—values he has consistently championed,” Akpewe stated.

He further argued that the creation of Anioma State would address political imbalances within Delta State, resolve administrative challenges, and empower the Anioma people to unlock their full potential.

“More importantly, it would set a precedent for addressing other genuine demands for state creation across the country, reinforcing Tinubu’s image as a reformer who listens, understands, and acts,” Akpewe added.
