Chief Ighoyota Amori and other prominent Urhobo political and community leaders, on Saturday graced the launch of “Odyssey of Royalty,” a commemorative book celebrating the reign of the HRM Dr Emmanuel Ekemejewa Sideso, Abe I, JP, OON, as the monarch marked his 18th coronation anniversary as Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom.
The delegation, which included Hon. Solomon Ighrakpata and other notable Urhobo leaders, joined traditional rulers, political officeholders, academics, and cultural stakeholders at the ongoing event at the Ovie of Uvwie Palace, Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area, Delta State, underscoring the broad-based respect for the Uvwie monarch across political and ethnic lines.
The book launch formed a major highlight of activities marking the anniversary, documenting the personal journey, leadership philosophy and achievements of the Abe I over eighteen years on the throne.
The publication reflects on a reign widely credited with restoring stability, strengthening traditional institutions and promoting peaceful coexistence within Uvwie Kingdom.
Speaking at the event, Chief Amori lauded the monarch’s consistency and reconciliatory leadership, describing the large turnout at the book launch as a testament to the respect and legitimacy Abe I commands within Urhobo nation and Delta State at large.
“HRM Emmanuel Sideso has not only led with dignity but has continually shown a commitment to peace and unity that is rare in contemporary leadership,” Chief Amori said.
“His ability to bridge divides, reconcile interests, and nurture young leaders has strengthened the very fabric of Urhobo society. Today’s gathering is a reflection of the deep affection and trust that the people of Uvwie, and indeed Urhobo nation, have for him.”
He also highlighted the monarch’s developmental impact, adding, according to Amori: “Beyond his cultural and traditional roles, Abe I has been instrumental in creating an environment that encourages investment, education, and social cohesion. Many of the initiatives we see today in Uvwie Kingdom are a direct result of his vision and inclusive approach to governance.”
Chief Amori called on other Urhobo leaders to emulate the monarch’s model of leadership.
“As leaders, we must learn from Ovie’s dedication to service. Leadership is not about power alone—it is about building institutions, nurturing the youth, and ensuring that our communities thrive in peace and stability,” he emphasised.
Chief Amori extended a personal message of goodwill: “On behalf of my colleagues and the Urhobo nation, I extend our heartfelt congratulations to His Majesty on this remarkable milestone. We pray for continued health, wisdom, and strength to sustain his impactful reign, and for God’s blessings upon Uvwie Kingdom.”
The 18th coronation anniversary, anchored by the launch of Odyssey of Royalty, was widely seen as both a celebration of royal longevity and a reflection on the enduring relevance of traditional leadership in promoting peace, development and cultural continuity in modern Delta State.
