The Delta State Police Command has recorded significant breakthroughs in its ongoing war against violent crime, with the arrest of key suspects linked to a brutal murder in Agbor and a suspected cultist-armed robbery syndicate in Warri.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, operatives attached to the Agbor Division arrested a prime suspect connected to the abduction and killing of a commercial motorcyclist in Ika South Local Government Area.
On October 7, 2025, police received a report that one Friday Orumgbe, aged 53, of Idumu Oza, Agbor, went missing after leaving home with his Lifan motorcycle the previous day.
Acting on the report, the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Michael Obekpa, ordered an immediate and discreet investigation.
Following sustained intelligence efforts, operatives apprehended Musa Buhari, aged 25, of Alihagu Village, Agbor, on October 16, and recovered the victim’s Tecno T101 handset from him.
During interrogation, the suspect confessed that he and one Manu Usman (now at large) had lured the victim into a bush along Power Line near Oki, Agbor, under the pretence of being passengers, where they attacked him with a hoe, rendering him unconscious before stealing his motorcycle and phone.
Acting on the suspect’s confession, police operatives led by the DPO visited the crime scene on October 17, 2025, where the decomposed remains of the victim were recovered.
The body was identified by family members and deposited at the Central Hospital Mortuary, Agbor, for autopsy. The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue to track down his fleeing accomplice.
In another operation, police operatives in Warri arrested two suspected members of a cult and armed robbery gang and recovered a firearm and other exhibits.
Acting on intelligence to boost visibility policing and curb cult-related violence, the DPO ‘A’ Division Warri, CSP Ya’u Kangiwa, deployed officers on intensified patrols within Ubeji community.
At about 3am on October 19, a patrol team from ‘B’ Division, Warri, intercepted a gold-coloured Lexus 350 SUV (registration number KWL359DS) parked suspiciously with two occupants — Christian Agbajor Akpos, 33, and Sophia Thomas, 26.
Upon questioning, both failed to provide a credible explanation for their movement at that hour.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a locally made cut-to-size double-barrel gun, one battle axe, one live cartridge, and one expended cartridge.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Akpos is a member of the MAPHITE confraternity and Neo-Black Movement (NBM).
He further confessed that the firearm was supplied by one Mr Shimaye, the Deputy Chairman of the Ubeji community, whose full details are yet to be ascertained.
Both suspects are currently in police custody, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the syndicate and recover more arms.
