Leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Agbarha Ward, Agbarha-otor Kingdom of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State, have called on former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, to contest the Delta Central Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
The call formed part of resolutions reached at the maiden meeting of the ward held on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at the residence of Chief Ominimini Obiuwevbi, where party faithful across the 42 polling units unanimously endorsed him as their candidate for the House of Representatives to represent Ughelli North/Ughelli South/Udu Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections.
The meeting was attended by the ward leadership led by Comrade Morrison Aruoture, the immediate past ward chairman, Chief David Ohwoekevwo, and other notable APC stakeholders.
Reading a press statement after the meeting, Chief Obiuwevbi said the people of Agbarha-otor Kingdom, one of the 22 kingdoms in Delta Central Senatorial District, were compelled to publicly declare their support for Senator Omo-Agege’s return to the Senate based on what he described as proven leadership capacity.
“We are putting our voice to the call because Senator Omo-Agege is a tested and trusted leader who performed credibly for Delta Central and the entire Delta State during his tenure in the 9th National Assembly,” he said.
He added that developmental projects attracted during the period had impact across the three senatorial districts.
“The entire Delta State benefited massively. We now have key federal institutions, including higher institutions of learning, and several viable projects that have strengthened opportunities for our people,” Obiuwevbi stated.
On political equity within the Urhobo nation, he argued that zoning considerations should guide future party decisions.
“Okpe Kingdom cannot at the same time produce the governorship candidate and the senatorial candidate. As a matter of necessity, the senatorial slot should be relinquished to another Urhobo clan with the capacity to deliver, and Senator Omo-Agege fits that profile,” he said.
He further urged the former Deputy Senate President to heed the growing calls from party faithful.
“We call on our amiable leader to listen to the voice of the people and accept to run for the Delta Central Senatorial District seat in 2027. That is the surest way for our people to maximise benefits from the federal government again,” he added.
During the meeting, Chief David Ohwoekevwo offered prayers for Obiuwevbi’s success in his pursuit of the House of Representatives seat, expressing confidence in his ability to provide effective representation.
A major highlight of the meeting was the presentation of a portrait to Chief Obiuwevbi by APC women in the ward led by the Ward Women Leader, Mrs Blessing Omojero.
The gesture was in celebration of his birthday held in Abuja on March 13, 2026, at an event hosted by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege at his Asokoro residence.
Party leaders said the endorsement and renewed mobilisation at the ward level signalled growing grassroots momentum ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
