AFCON 2022: Super Eagles camp opens Dec. 28, 5 new players expected

Super Eagles of Nigeria will December 28 begin preparations for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations in Uyo, the capital of Akwa-Ibon State.

According to Complete Sports, the team will train at the Godswill Akpabio stadium before moving to Garoua, Cameroon, the venue for their group games.

There are also plans for the Super Eagles to play at least three warm-up games before the start of the competition.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles interim coach, Austine Eguavoen has revealed that he will extend invitation to five new players to the senior national team for camping ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

Eguavoen, who stated this in an interview with newsmen, said that he would not make big changes from the list of players that former Nigerian coach, Gernot Rohr had in place before his sack.

The Super Eagles have been drawn in Group D of the competition alongside Egypt, Sudan and Guinea-Bissau.

The three-time champions will open their campaign against the Pharaohs of Egypt at the Roumde Adija Stadium, on Monday, January 11.

The West Africans will then face Sudan four days later, before their final fixture against Guinea-Bissau on January 19.
