Accountant General back steps on £4.2m loot to Delta

The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) in Nigeria on Wednesday said the £4.2m that was looted by a former governor of Delta state is yet to be returned to the state.

In a press release by the Director, Information, Press and Public Relations, Henshaw Ogubike, titled: “RE: £4.2m IBORI LOOT: PUTTING THE RECORDS STRAIGHT” the OAGF said it was untrue the “widely circulated media report on the £4.2m Ibori Loot” which quoted the AGF, Mr Ahmed Idris saying the controversial £4.2m looted by an ex-governor of the state, has since been transmitted to the Delta state government.

Setting the records straight, the OAGF explained that: “The issue of the £4.2m Ibori Loot has not been properly resolved. The money is still being awaited, after which the issues around it will be resolved before further action is taken. For now, no money has been returned to Delta State.

“This explanation is without prejudice to the proceedings at the public hearing that took place yesterday during which the AGF was only making general comments about recoveries relating to State Governments.

“This is the true position as regards the £4.2m Ibori Loot.”
