The family of renowned international evangelist and founder of the Uma Ukpai Evangelistic Association (UUEA), Dr. Uma Ukpai, has officially confirmed his passing.

TheNewsGuru reports that the announcement was made through a statement posted on his official Facebook page on Monday.

“With hearts full of gratitude, we celebrate the triumphant homegoing of Rev. Dr. Uma Ukpai, who passed on to glory on October 6, 2025, at the age of 80,” the family stated.

Born on January 7, 1945, in Asaga, Ohafia, Abia State, Dr. Ukpai’s life was marked by faith, service, and unwavering dedication to the gospel.

According to TNG, he surrendered his life to Christ at the age of 13 — a decision that set him on a lifelong mission of evangelism that touched millions across the world.

The family noted that details of his funeral arrangements will be made public in due course, describing him as “a faithful soldier of the cross who dedicated over six decades to fiery evangelism, dynamic teaching, and prophetic demonstrations of God’s power.”

“He was a spiritual general, a founding father of faith, a loving husband, devoted father, and mentor to many. Though we mourn his physical absence, we rejoice that he has finished his race and now rests in eternal praise. We are grateful to God for his extraordinary life and enduring legacy. For indeed, ‘to live is Christ, and to die is gain’ (Philippians 1:21),” the family added.

TNG further reports that Dr. Ukpai’s early years were shaped by hardship. Losing his father at the age of ten thrust him into early responsibility — an experience that inspired his compassion for the poor and brokenhearted.

“I know what it means to lose a father and be a father from that age. I learnt early that the stone Satan throws at you can become a stepping stone,” he once said.

Dr. Ukpai began his education at Uma Ukpai Memorial Primary School, Asaga, before moving to Khana County Council School, Ogoni, and later All Saints Secondary School, Aba. He also attended Niger Delta Technical School (now Boys Technical College, Aba).

Pursuing further education abroad, he studied at the School of Journalism and Television, Frisham Hermitage, United Kingdom; South Florida Christian College, Miami, USA; Carolina Christian University; and Burke Bible College, Kentucky, USA.

He earned a Certificate in Electrical Engineering Practice, a Diploma in Journalism, and both Bachelor’s and Doctorate degrees in Divinity.

TNG reports that Dr. Ukpai is survived by his wife, Pastor (Mrs.) Philomena Uma Ukpai, a steadfast partner in ministry. Their union was blessed with eight children and an adopted child. The couple, however, once endured the tragic loss of two children in a car accident on the same day.
