Sheriff Oborevwori, the gubernatorial candidate of the PDP in Delta State has won last Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

The PDP won 21 out of the 25 Local Government Areas in the state while his main challenger, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege of the APC won 4.

The Delta State Returning Officer for the governorship election and Vice-Chancellor, University of Porthacout, Prof Owuneri Abraham Georgewill, announced that the PDP candidate, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, scored 360,234 of the total votes cast in the election to emerge the winner.

The candidate of the APC, Senator Ovie OmoAgege, who is the Deputy President of the Senate, came a distant second with total votes cast of 240,229.

The scores of the other three leading political parties in the state saw the Labour Party candidate, Ken Pela emerging in third position with a total vote cast of 48,047 votes.

The APGA candidate, Great Ogboru scored 11,022 votes to emerge in fourth position in the electoral contest; the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Chief Kenneth Ggbagi took fifth position with 4,639 votes cast.

Scores of the remaining twelve political parties that fielded candidates for the election put together came to less than 5,000 votes.

The political parties include Accord 930 votes, ZLP 303, NNPP 791, APM 937, NRN 612, APD 1081, YPP 844, APP 198, AA 66, PRP 54, ADC 1482, BP 162 and RPP 198 votes.

While the total number of registered voters in Delta State is 3,221,697 accredited voters in the election were 710,829.

Total valid votes 671,737, rejected votes 15,384 and total votes cast 687,121.

The State Returning Officer, Prof Owuneri Abraham Georgewill, said the PDP candidate, Sheriff Oborevwori having fulfilled the necessary requirements as provided by the electoral act and the constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria, is therefore declared the winner.

The collation exercise was witnessed by agents of various political parties, security agencies, civil society organizations, local and international elections monitoring observers and the media.

The high point of the collation exercise was the signing of the results by the agents of the various political parties.

The breakdown of the results from across the 25 LGAs is below:

1. IKA SOUTH

Total Registered Voters- 100,599

Accredited Voters – 27,800

APC – 6,790

LP – 4,495

PDP – 15,883

Total Valid Votes – 27,149

Rejected Votes – 651

Total Votes Cast – 27,800

Total Registered Voters- 49,385

Accredited Voters – 11,421

APC – 4,743

  • APC Agent submitted a petition rejecting the results from Ward 5 of Sapele LGA… They accused the Returning Officer of presenting results that were cancelled at polling units because of overvoting and violence allegedly sponsored by the PDP.
  • Cancellation of five polling units as a result of overvoting.

5. ANIOCHA SOUTH

Total Registered Voters- 100,424

Accredited Voters – 21,149

APC – 4,623

LP – 5,107

PDP – 10,032

Total Valid Votes – 20,468

Rejected Votes – 603

Total Votes Cast – 21,071

  • At Ward 3, Unit 4…thugs invaded and carted away election materials…
  • Thugs carted away with election materials and injured a Party Agent

6. UVWIE

Total Registered Voters- 191,215

Accredited Voters – 31,188

APC – 12,389

LP – 6,340

PDP – 9,776

Total Valid Votes – 30,263

Rejected Votes – 925

7. OKPE

 Total Registered Voters- 117,111

Accredited Voters – 25,724

APC – 8,679

LP – 1,155

PDP – 14,544

  • APC Agent protested the results from Okpe LGA insisting that units results that were cancelled yesterday at polling units and Ward levels were presented here at Asaba Delta State INEC headquarters by the LGA Returning Officer, Prof. Kenneth Abara Ibe.

 

8. IKA NORTH EAST

Total Registered Voters- 131,945

Accredited Voters – 34,807

APC 4,733

LP – 1,990

PDP – 26,760

Total Valid Votes – 33,808

Rejected Votes – 918

Total Votes Cast – 34,725

  • INEC RCO was molested as reported at the State INEC declaration centre this morning in Asaba

 

9. ANIOCHA NORTH

Accredited Voters – 16,846

APC 4,386

LP – 1,883

PDP – 8,938

Total Valid Votes – 16,316

Rejected Votes – 530

Total Votes Cast – 16,846

10. NDOKWA EAST

  • While the LGA Returning Officer reported that a particular place votes didn’t pass through BVAS and were cancelled, the APC for the Oshimili North LGA protested that most of the votes declared for Oshimili North didn’t pass through the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) and we’re accepted by the Returning Officer

 

14. WARRI SOUTH

Total Registered Voters- 187,140

Total Votes Cast – 32,750

  • Returning Officer reported that 2 polling units were cancelled in Wards 1&12 for/as a result of overvoting and violence

 

15. OSHIMILI SOUTH

Total Registered Voters- 194,468

Accredited Voters – 39,028

APC – 4,763

LP – 10,148

PDP – 23,149

Total Valid Votes – 38,530

Rejected Votes – 493

  • Returning Officer reported that there was over-voting in some areas

 

16. ISOKO NORTH

Total Registered Voters- 144,092

  • Returning Officer reported that there was a cancellation of votes from Emevor due to reported cases of violence.
  • The APC Agent showed gory pictures of his Party supporters that were allegedly macheted by suspected PDP thugs despite those recorded violence cases the Returning Officer still declared results from those areas.

 

17. UGHELLI SOUTH

Total Registered Voters- 136,362

Accredited Voters – 36,136

  • APC Agent reported that at Ward 8, Jeremi 2, fake result sheets were given to Polling Units Agents to sign except PDP which they (the other Agents) rejected. He alleged that those rejected results of Ward 8, Jeremi 2 were recorded in favour of the PDP.

 

18. ETHIOPE WEST

Total Registered Voters- 110,931

Accredited Voters – 14,999

APC – 6,758

LP – 304

PDP – 7,065

Total Valid Votes – 14,374

Rejected Votes – 452

Total Votes Cast – 14,826

  • Returning Officer reported that no voting in many areas of the LGA.

 

19. UGHELLI NORTH

– Returning Officer reported that there was an incident of destruction of election materials in some areas and over-voting in Ward 7 that was cancelled. He also reported that there was no election in Ward 8, Evwreni in Ughelli North.
