32 Years After: Aniagwu, Nwaeke, Iruekpe, Ogwezhi, Others Shine at Auchi Poly ’93 Reunion in Lagos

Delta State Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Mr. Nkem Nwaeke, the Editor, Sunday Thisday Newspaper, Mr. Davidson Iriekpen, and the MD/CEO Capital Express Life Assurance Limited, Mathew Ogelenya Ogwezhi, were among twelve members of Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi Class of ’93, who received awards of excellence at the weekend’s reunion of the students in Lagos after 32 years.

Others include two diaspora czars, Mr. Jolly Iguodala (UK) and Mr. Thompson Okasaibor (Canada), Chief Chris Mogaha, an accomplished entrepreneur, Mr. Alfred Akokhia, an advert guru, Rev. Austen Akhagbeme, a realtor, Mr. Basil Agbarume, an aviation expert, Mrs. Joan Enega, a PR consultant and another who has risen to the top echelon in one of the nation’s security agencies.

The awardees were honoured for their immense contributions to the growth of the old students’ association and achievements in their personal careers.

The presentation of the awards formed part of the highlight of the 3-day event tagged “Lasgidi Titanic Reunion”, which featured a business session, lecture, tributes, networking, special recognitions, election of new executives, musical performances, and a toast of friendship and enduring bonds.

The reunion lecture with the theme “Cyber Security” was delivered by Dr. Onyekachi Nnabuihe, an Associate Professor and Acting Head of Department of Criminology, Security, Peace, and Conflict Studies, Caleb University, Lagos State.

The newly inaugurated executive to run the affairs of the association for the next three years has Barr. Andrew Lawani returned as the President, Mrs. Agatha Mathew, Vice President, Mr. Lawrence Ojeashi, Secretary, and Mrs. Ejiro Enebeli, Treasurer. Also returned were Mrs. Mercy Omokodion, Financial Secretary, Mrs. Vivien Uchunor, PRO, Mr. Eloka Ogomegbunem, Diaspora Coordinator, Mr. Fatai Otokiti, Provost, and Mr. Daniel Owei, Welfare Officer.

The President, on behalf of the exco, thanked members for the trust reposed in them and promised to serve diligently, noting that the association is hinged on welfare for members and giving back to their alma mater.

While urging members to always participate in activities of the association, the President paid glowing tribute to the old students for their dedication to the objectives of the association. He said coming together after 32 years to celebrate one another was remarkable and called for the sustenance of those attributes that promote love and friendship in the association.

Others who spoke in their separate remarks also highlighted the need for unity among members of Auchi Polytechnic Mass Communication Class ’93 and prayed for enduring peace and progress among them and members of their families. A minute’s silence was observed for those who God had called to His eternal glory.

The next reunion of the class comes up in 2028.
