Ahead of the 2023 general elections, politicians have been asked to engage in issue-based campaigns rather than comments and actions that undermine peace, unity and growth of the society.

The call was contained in a four-point communiqué issued by the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council at the end of its meeting in Asaba, the state capital.

The communiqué read by the Chairman of the Council and Orodje of Okpe Kingdom, Retired Major General, Felix Mujakpuero, Orhue 1, enjoined the political class to be civil and shun character assassination of political opponents under the guise of campaigns.

The royal fathers insisted that politicians must conduct themselves with decorum and maturity all through the electioneering period.

The Delta monarchs maintained that the country belong to all Nigerians, adding that politicians should guard against the tendency of dividing the people along political, religious and ethnic cleavages.

They stressed that candidates for various elective positions should address critical development issues that would put the Nation back on track and on the trajectory of sustainable socio-economic and infrastructural development.

The monarchs appreciated the Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa for his exceptional love and respect for Traditional Rulers in Delta State and pledged their continued support towards his administration.

They described Governor Okowa as a thoroughbred leader who had been able to successfully manage the affairs of the state despite obvious economic challenges.
