The Isoko Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has charged politicians, especially those of Isoko extraction, to make only achievable promises and shun political grandstanding as they embark on campaigns for different elective positions in the coming 2023 general elections.
The Union made this call earlier this week in an enlarged leaders meeting held in Oleh which took a critical look at all the candidates from the different political parties in the two Isoko Local Government Areas.
In a statement signed by the Chapel leaders, Comrade Emmanuel Ekebe, Comrade Michael Ilaya and Comrade Matthew Unyove, the Union noted that many of the past and current elected and appointed politicians have not satisfied the yearnings and aspirations of the Isoko people, also charged the candidates to run issue-based campaigns and abhor violence before, during and after the elections.
The Chapel which is proposing a political debate for all Isoko candidates across party lines in collaboration with the Isoko Development Union (IDU) before the elections hope to interrogate them on their level of preparedness and vision for the Isoko Nation if elected.
In the same vein, the Chapel called on the electorates to be mindful of the bandwagon swing of party loyalties rather than the emerging trend of voting only credible and viable candidates irrespective of party affiliations and ethnic considerations.
