A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Delta State, Chief Ominimini Obiuwevbi has yielded to several notices and moves by major stakeholders of the party and their followers in the state to get him to join the senatorial race for Delta Central in the 2023 general elections.

Chief Ominimini’s final acceptance to run for the Senate seat NewsNet Nigeria gathered followed a visit Wednesday, April 6, 2022, at his Ughelli residence by the Delta Central APC Leaders of Thought to further convince him to accede to the call for him to join the senatorial race.

Chief Thomas Oduaran heads the group which has Prince Mayor Mayor, Denis Warri, Chief Godspower Okagbare, Chief Mathias Olowu and other members.

They said having searched round Delta APC they found Chief Ominimini capable to fly the flag of APC for the Delta Central Senatorial District contest in the 2023 general elections.

Chief Oduaran and others placed on record the philanthropy of Chief Ominimini noting that from his antecedents he is someone the people of Delta Central can trust and hold accountable for his stewardship in the senate.

Chief Obiuwevbi while accepting to contest the Delta Central Senatorial District seat said he was humbled by the pedigree of the APC leaders of thought who beckoned on him to throw in his hat for the contest in order to change the narrative in the representation of the district in the Red chamber.

Ominimini noted that his passion has always been to have avenues through which he can offer effective and purposeful leadership to his people.

He pledged to consult widely in order to have the support of delegates to the APC senatorial primary to emerge as the party’s flag bearer in the 2023 general elections.

Ominimini, a former Project Director and Commissioner on the Board of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, said, “Giving the pedigree of the people I see here today, I want to say I have listened to your voice and I have accepted. I hereby declare my intention to run for the position of Senate.

“There are yardsticks with which a legislator can be measured in terms of performance. One is constituency outreach. Be rest assured that if given the opportunity to serve as the Senator representing the Urhobo people of Delta Central at the Red Chamber, constituency outreach shall be very, very rampant.

“In fact, take it home that every quarter of the year your Senator by the grace of God, Ominimini Obiuwevbi will always come and consult with the Urhobo people of Delta Central; where I shall take the feedback to the Red Chamber.

“Another instrument through which a legislator can be measured is your performance at the plenary. If given the opportunity, if I stand in the Red Chamber, Urhobo people will know that they have a son in Abuja.

“Three is oversight function. All of this put together, Urhobo people will know that they have a representative at the Red Chamber.

“I have heard your voice and take it home to other members of your group that I have accepted your call to run for the office of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria representing Delta Central come 2023 under the banner of APC.

“A time shall come when we will address Urhobo people. I have the interest of the Urhobo people at heart. I was born and brought up in this Urhobo. I know where the Urhobos are coming from and I know where the Urhobos should be and where the Urhobos are going.

“The interest of the Urhobo people shall be in my heart every time, every day. And by the grace of God coupled with people like you behind me, success shall be our position.

Chief Ominimini even without being in government for a while has continued to endear himself to many with his philanthropy and humanitarian works for humanity.
