By Felix Ekwu

An aspirant in the recent primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Delta Central Senatorial District, Chief John Nani has appealed to his supporters to put behind them the outcome of the primary which did not go in his favour.

Nani in the keenly contested PDP primary held on Monday, May 23, 2022, at the Sapele Township Stadium in Sapele headquarters of Sapele Local Government Area, lost to the party’s flag bearer, Chief Ighoyota Amori.

The Jesse-born politician from Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, after the primary on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, was sworn in again by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa as the Executive Director, Finance and Administration of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, alongside the Commission’s the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Bashorun Askia Ogieh and Hon Daniel Mayuku as Executive Director, Projects.

Speaking to newsmen shortly after hosting some of his supporters at his Jesse country home, Chief Nani said, “I know full well that the primary has come and gone and I am a party man who believes that the contest is a game that one will definitely win and the other will lose.

“I lost whether all the intricacies behind my losing or not, I lost and I lost. And I need to also let my people know that playing the game should be that of give and take.

“The party (PDP) gave me the platform for me to have contested the primaries and I lost and also I have to make sure that party is the party of the day in Delta State. I have to ask them (supporters) to work for the party because I will not want to lose because I have lost the primary.

“It is my plea to my followers and plea to others that have lost the primaries that they should take the party first before their personal interest. Once the primary is gone it should be one family and knowing that PDP is the umbrella party that has a centrifugal force of bringing everybody together, not that that will sweep the goose away they should come together under the umbrella to see that they deliver PDP from the top to bottom. That is from Atiku/Okowa, Sheriff and all others from the Senate, House of Rep and House of Assembly that are contesting in the 2023 election.”
