A stalwart of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in Delta State, Hon. Livingstone Edirin has joined the race to occupy the Udu Constituency seat in the Delta State House of Assembly in 2023.

Hon. Edirin on Saturday, February 12, 2022, formally declared his intention to represent the people of Udu Local Government Area in the State Legislature to a large gathering of his teaming supporters at Orhuwhorun Primary School field in Orhuwhorun.

As Deltans prepare to go to the polls in 2023 to elect credible candidates into various electoral positions, the people of Udu Local Government Area particularly the youths have decided to throw their weight behind Hon. Livingstone Edirin, who they describe as a youth that can be held accountable for his actions should they entrust their mandate to him to be the voice of Udu Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly come 2023.

From various communities in Udu Local Government Area, they converged at Orhuwhorun Primary School, Orhuwhorun to garner support for Hon. Livingstone Edirin, in his quest to offer effective representation to the Udu people in the Hallowed Chamber.

Setting political backgrounds aside, the youths in their numbers under the aegis of Hon. Livingstone Movement lamented over the alarming rate of jobless youths in the Council Area and the perceived negligence from appropriate authorities in creating meaningful job opportunities or skill acquisition programmes for qualified persons to take advantage of.

The youths who said the elected officers in the Local Government Area lack the impetus and vision to provide human capital development and infrastructure also noted that youths in the LGA are only empowered by engaging in menial jobs in the guise that they are members of a Taskforce or committee.

Speaking at the event, the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Chairman, Udu Local Government Area, Comrade Shedrack Okolobi, SDP Ward 10 Chairman, Comrade Jerry Akpini, the Coordinator, Hon. Livingstone Movement, Comrade Oke Omimi, and others expressed their strong resolve to support the aspiration of Hon. Livingstone Edirin to emerge as the member of the Delta State House of Assembly representing Udu Constituency in 2023.

They however called on youths in Udu to register and collect their Permanent Voters Card, PVC, as it is their weapon to vote out bad leaders who are hell-bent on siphoning the Council treasury for their personal gain.

Earlier, while addressing the gathering of supporters on his decision to throw his hat into the ring, Hon Livingstone Edirin, said the lack of infrastructure and security challenges witnessed in most parts of the Udu Local Government Area motivated him as he intends to change the narrative.

Hon Edirin noted that he intends to parley with stakeholders at the grassroots to proffer lasting solutions to the peculiar problems being encountered in the Council Area.

He also reminded all of his contributions in promoting peace and security in Orhuwhorun community with the purchase of a Toyota Sienna Space bus for the local Vigilante to enable them to carry out their responsibility.

The high point of the declaration was the unanimous resolve by the Udu people particularly the youths to present Hon. Livingstone Edirin as the frontline aspirant to represent Udu Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly come 2023 under the banner of the Social Democratic Party, SDP.
